Women in Data Science (WiDS) is delighted to announce that long-time WiDS Ambassador Louvere Walker-Hannon has joined the WiDS Advisory Committee (board). This appointment puts a spotlight on Louvere’s unwavering commitment to advancing the WiDS mission, her contribution over the years to develop educational resources and opportunities, and her passion for creating a community that includes and celebrates everyone in the field of data science and AI.
A Leader in Data Science and AI
Throughout her career, Louvere has focused on using AI, machine learning, and data science to solve real-world problems. She is known for her ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences and for her thoughtful approach to mitigating bias in AI and exploring the societal implications of data-driven technologies.
Louvere brings more than two decades of experience at MathWorks, where she has held multiple engineering roles and become a respected advocate for the responsible and accessible use of AI. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University and her master’s degree in Geographic Information Technology from Northeastern University, specializing in remote sensing.
A Dedicated WiDS Ambassador and STEM Advocate
As a WiDS Ambassador, Louvere has been a cornerstone of our community—organizing events, mentoring participants, and championing opportunities for women and underrepresented groups to thrive in data science. Beyond WiDS, she serves as a STEM Ambassador at MathWorks, where she volunteers in schools, on panels, and at science fairs to inspire the next generation of data scientists, and volunteers for the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).
Louvere’s impact extends to the broader AI community. She has presented at numerous conferences, including serving as a keynote speaker at the Black in AI Workshop at NeurIPS 2021, where she shared insights on diversity, representation, and inclusion in technology. Her message underscores the importance of both technical and human skills—clear communication, active listening, and collaboration—in shaping a more equitable data science ecosystem.
Guiding the Future of WiDS
As a WiDS Advisory Committee member, Louvere will help guide the strategic direction of the WiDS initiative—supporting our mission to expand access to data science education, amplify diverse voices, and ensure that AI innovations benefit society as a whole.
We are honored to welcome Louvere to the Advisory Committee and deeply grateful for her years of leadership, mentorship, and service. Her vision and energy will continue to inspire the global WiDS community as we work together to empower women everywhere to make their mark in data science.
